The Village of Ahwatukee

Welcome to Ahwatukee Foothills, one of the 15 villages designated by the City of Phoenix. The people who live, work, shop and play in this thriving community share the intimacy of small town living, while enjoying the plentiful amenities of a bustling metropolis close at hand. Because Ahwatukee is nestled so closely to the surrounding mountains, it gives the feel of an independent city. The village is bound by I-10 to the east along with the cities of Chandler and Tempe, to the north is South Mountain and the Gila River Indian Reservation to the west and south. Our 35.8 square-mile village currently has a population of approximately 88,500 residents and the average household income is $96,700.

A portion of Ahwatukee’s appeal is attributed to the strong educational system. The Kyrene School District serves the pre-k through 8th grade sector. It is one of the top performing districts in the state with all 25 schools receiving “excelling” or “highly performing” ratings. The two high schools are part of the Tempe Union High School district and both boast “excelling” ratings. In addition to the fine public schools are a variety of private and charter schools. Arizona State University is located in nearby Tempe. South Mountain College, the University of Phoenix and Ottawa University also have a campus presence in the area.

Ahwatukee offers fine shops, boutiques and a variety of fabulous restaurants. Residents of this prosperous village seldom have to leave the area for anything. Ahwatukee boasts large department stores, abundant grocers, health food outlets, several general retail outlets and specialty stores. You will also find a movie theater megaplex, country clubs and public recreation centers.

With the fall brings the finest weather in the country from October to May. When most cities put activities to bed for the winter, the village is just getting started. A Farmer’s Market offering a wide variety of regional produce, baked goods and crafts offers local artists and entrepreneurs an outlet for their small businesses. Enjoy concerts in the park, arts and crafts festivals, several heated community pools, along with tennis and basketball courts.

If you enjoy the outdoors, South Mountain State Park is the largest city owned park in the country. The picturesque setting is perfect for hiking, biking or horseback riding. Outdoor sports are year round here. There are leagues to suit any age at any time of the year. Ahwatukee is also home to many fitness and training centers and a state of the art YMCA.

The Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce works hard for its members by strengthening the local economy, promoting the community, providing networking opportunities and representing the interest of business with government. The Chamber takes pride in the role of community cheerleader. It is an all encompassing resource for the community and as the voice of commerce, it represents over 450 businesses working together to improve the quality of life for all who choose to reside in this beautiful community.
